Your hair looks like shit!

You've come along way Black and Comely Lady!
Coming into the beauty industry some twenty years ago was sort of like therapy for me. I desperately wanted to surround myself with imagery of pretty woman, I guess in hopes of it looking "pretty' by associations. When I started out, the options for natural hair were slim to none, Sisterlocks was just coming on the scene as a styling option for 'corporate girls' who wanted to be nappy and happy. I took part in the spell too, slathering on relaxers and weaving hair good that it looked like it was coming out of your scalp. Yes my bread and butter.

I was satisfied with the money, it gave me pride to see my masterpiece walk out my salon in tears of joy:her self esteem through the roof.

The guilt took over me and I did, after many years profit, deleted those types of services from the menu to provide natural hair styling only. It was a spiritual choice. I yearned to be 'authentic and beautiful' all rolled in one. I know we won't all get there at the same time, some of us never will. I had a client who was 92 years old getting a hair relaxer;she had to get help fitting her wheelchair through the door but she came every six week to get that touch up. She's past on now.... I often think of her.

At what point do you give up the ghost and say this is who I am? When your dead?

I want all woman to feel lovely and honored and adored. It pains me to here it:  "What am I gonna do with this nappy head?,or "I look like a boy with short hair!", or I can't comb this stuff on my head,or "It's just packed down on my head like carpet!"

Why-o-Why are we so cruel towards what is naturally our glory? Straight, curly, wavy, coily it really is all wonderfully made and when u show that u care for it, it's even more beautiful.
I want all u ladies to know that I support what ever decision ya'll make just be supportive to the women who want to go natural, we all want each others approval.
